'Mommy, What's a Funkadelic?' and so begins the first track of a mysterious spaced out 9.08 minutes of a loose groove laden track which started a debut album that became a foundation from which the band continued to thoroughly explore the question in detail from a higher plane altogether. Originally released in 1970, the legendary funkmaster general George Clinton produced an album which absorbed some of the same frequencies of Hendrix, Sly and the Family Stone and even the MC5, such was the cosmic soup which provided a backdrop to Funkadelic's own brand of psychedelic jazz/blues/rock funk which bewildered and even frightened as many as it captivated at the time.
