Gilli Smyth, became known as the 'space whisperer' in Gong, formed in 1967 in Paris with her partner Daevid Allen of Soft Machine, Gong became a smorgasbord of delights with many band members including Steve Hillage, Pierre Moerlen and Didier Malherbe becoming part of a larger outfit of the Gong family, ever changing and morphing into somewhere, SOMETHING new.
Gilli Smyth's debut solo album Mother is a wonderful psychedelic journey inward and outward into the Cosmos, originally released in 1978, it still resonates brightly today. Mother stands proudly on it's own amidst a glorious discography where Gong fans continue to hold Mother with a warm embrace, an album to get lost in again and again, to find time and solace to enlighten the mind.
