Long Awaited Debut Album from local heroes 'Hardwicke Circus'.
From 'The Borderland', literally! A band already famous for their hard working ethic, constant gigging across Britain, earning a reputation in the meantime for being a true 'grafters' band and 'the ones to watch'.
The old school is definitely the best school, as the saying goes, for a band still so young they have crafted and honed their musicianship along the 'hard knocks' road of gigging small clubs onto stages in Hyde Park!
Proudly based in the border town of Carlisle, Hardwicke Circus have played over 150 gigs during 2019- supporting Bob Dylan & Neil Young in Hyde Park, Madness, Alabama 3, Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes, Bob Geldof’s Boomtown Rats and The Blockheads. They have gigged at the legendary Isle of Wight Festival, Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds, headlined the Yam Riot Stage at Kendal Calling and gained airplay on BBC Introducing, Radio 1, Radio 2 & 6 Music. HC have recently completed a four month residency at the famous Hope & Anchor in London and have just released their third EP. In March 2020 they were booked to play the legendary South by Southwest Festival in Austin Texas, USA but sadly due to the Covid-19 Global Pandemic it was understandably postponed.
Their Debut album has been long awaited and doesn't disappoint. Fans who've followed the band since the early days will be accustomed to their workmanlike, 'can do' attitude where anything is possible. Sold out local shows soon grew to the length and breadth of Britain, by word of mouth and comparisons to such luminaries as the legendary E-Street Band they have grown in stature on their own terms.
With a resolute 'nod of the cap' to the wistful ways of old Cumbrian tales and well trodden ancient Celtic paths, travelling further afield but forever grounded in the Great Border city, The Borderland continues to carry on a great tradition of keeping your roots close to your heart however far you may travel across the world.
The songs shine through with interwoven influences proudly displayed on their sleeves including The Pogues, Big Country, Springsteen and the E-Street Band, Dylan and The Band, The Boomtown Rats and The Waterboys to name but a few. The great thing is they've found a sound which encompasses more than a some of its parts whilst keeping a deep respect of what's come before, creating something fresh and indelibly their own.
Resisting the calls to follow the crowd into 'Indie land', the band have gone their own instinctive way. Fortune favours the brave and these guys are stepping out over the front line.
It's unusual for a band in this day and age in particular to take their time and hone their skills for longevity and a lifelong career in music, instead of 15 minutes of fame in the spotlight. These guys are here for the long run and 'The Borderland' is a mighty fine foundation of an album to continue the inevitable rise of Hardwicke Circus.
